Belly Breath with Sound you produce sound when air leaving your lungs passes over your vocal cords causing them to vibrate. This vibration creates a healing environment for the body and mind. The simple sounds that are user friendly, easy to use in all languages and dialects are “ah, sa, ma, hm”. On longer exhale you can do an energizing sound “ah, sa”. Or you can do a calming sound “ma, hm”. Sound can also help you coordinate your breath and movement for example in a pose like side bends.

It was a pleasure being on Wendy Myers podcast, Myers Detox. I had the opportunity to share my story and how my life led me to finding a passion for yoga therapy. Wendy asked me many great questions in regards to how yoga therapy helps individuals with neurological disorders, and physical & mental health issues. This episode is truly filled with valuable insights into the world of yoga therapy. Check it out by clicking below:

This is “a-writer-downer” Doris!!! Thank you!! We all need a way to create more calm within ourselves! This one will be good to memorize and integrate throughout the busy days ahead! It’s simple and welcoming to everyone. The side bends are an excellent integration also as I often forget this simple stretch. I will be setting a timer on my phone several times a day for this one which will help me memorize it more quickly 🙂 You know just what we need when we need it! Morning’s timer will read “Ah, sa” and evening’s timer will say “Ma, hm” Thanks Again Doris!
These sounds are so effective!
I use them in certain poses just like we are shown in this video.
I have been doing the calming sounds while doing the lizard pose and am finding them to go very well together.
Once I get into lizard pose and let my shoulder from the side that I am not stretching….drop down….and let go…..the stretch is deep and feels so good on my rib cage.
For a while I wasn’t doing the pose correctly….and therefore was not getting the full benefit from it. Once I figured it out….it has become one of my favorite poses for the side of my ribs.
There isn’t one pose that Doris teaches that isn’t very important for our bodies. It took me a little while to realize that and know that if I am not feeling the benefit of a pose…..then I am not doing it right.
That knowledge is really important for Doris and her healing work…..as well as for her clients.
BTW-
(Doris always tells us how to do these poses the right way….. sometimes I just miss something)
Lizard pose gives a similar stretch as the side stretch Doris shows in this video…..except…..I find it to be more grounding for me personally….bc more of my body is touching the ground.
Daily grounding for me is very important for my sanity….!!
I also only do the calming sounds while in lizard pose…. bc it helps my body relax even more into it.
Again though….that is just specific to my needs.
Doris….💕💕💕
