Left Nostril Breathing / Anxiety Breath
Benefits: This breathing technique helps with stress management, it calms your mind down when you have anxiety and it helps you to have a sharper, clearer focus of your mind. By understanding that each nostril connects to the opposite side of your brain, you can actually balance the two sides of your brain.
The left side is the moon energy: reflective, calming, cooling, female, nurturing. The parasympathetic system (left side) is rest and digest response, meaning it helps to lower blood pressure, decrease heart rate and encourage improved digestion and sleep.
Practice this left nostril breathing for up to 3 minutes or more.
Thank you for this video Doris.
So first…..this is one of my go to breathing techniques and it works wonders! It calms my mind within moments of doing it.
Whenever I am doing yoga with you, live…..in class or in private, within a few mins I notice my abdomen on the upper left side will start to talk, by bubbling and rumbling and it gets louder and louder as I continue to breath or do a pose. Then I feel my body start to let go.
I was told by a visceral massage therapist who called my stomach rumbling a ‘symphony’ that it meant my parasympathetic nervous system was being activated.
I experience this every time I do the breathing techniques and quite quickly with this specific technique, but also when doing yoga. As a matter of fact I watch for this reaction in my body bc it is the first sign that my body and mind likes what I am doing with it. Miss Doris…..
You hold the key to so many wonderful things!!
Sending you lots of love!!💕💕💕
I woke up with anxiety this morning, and remembered from class that breathing from one nostril is calming. The only problem is that I couldn’t remember which nostril, so I came to the website and there was the answer! It worked wonders — so grateful for this resource!! Thanks, Doris!

Doris is such a blessing! By teaching me this particular breathing technique, I am able to relax more fully and decrease anxiety by centering on this technique and really creating a safe space to calm myself and then re-enter my day!
