The Thyroid is a two-inch long, butterfly shaped endocrine gland located at the base of the neck, just below the Adam’s apple. The thyroid produces hormones that regulate heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight.
So the Throat Chakra (5 Chakra) were the thyroid is located, is all about our communication, it is about being heard, seen and understood. It is about speaking your truth freely without censorship, it shouldn’t be shamed or judged. There are various thyroid disorders like Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto’s Disease, Graves Disease.
So I want to show you these poses they are considered throat-stimulating. They’re thought to improve circulation and energy flow around the thyroid, and stretch and strengthen the neck.
Specific exercise to improve blood circulation, lymph flow and prevent functional decline of your thyroid.
- Shoulder-Shrugs
- Shoulder circles backwards and forwards
- Alternate Shoulder circles, tilt your neck to one side and roll that shoulder, switch to the other side
- Shrug your shoulders really high, tip your head back and wobble from side to side
make a fist and bang your fist at the opposite side right next to the neck, switch to the other side that will break up the energy, there is a stagnation right from the neck the the shoulder so energetically it will loosen up and it makes you smile
I also want to show you a sequence what will benefit your thyroid:
- Breath work, Anulom Vilom Pranayama, Ujjai Breath or Humming Breath
- Cat and Cow pose
- Cobra pose after Childs pose
- Camel pose after Childs pose
- Fish pose
- Plow pose variations
- Bridge pose
- Shoulder-stand with blog or bolster or without
- Legs-Up-The-Wall
I really need to process these exercises and integrate some of them daily. I work on the computer often and this blog post reminded of a practitoner years ago who admonished us to keep a neck scarf on while at an device with blue light. Even turtleneck tops were encouraged to protect the thymus & thyroid glands as they are in direct line of this kind of damaging light (esp. phones or other handheld devices). I never even contemplated exercises to strength our thyroid glands! Doris has done it again!! This is just plain practical, doable, and frugal advice–Thank you Doris! Keep up the Good Work!
